Santana Golf Club on the Costa del Sol

Santana Golf Club

The Santana golf club is located within the Mijas golf valley just 5 minutes from Fuengirola and 30 minuted drive from Malaga international airport.

Santana is certainly one classy golf course and should be included in any group golfing itinerary when ever possible. Among professionals and amateurs alike, the Santana golf club on the Costa de Sol always receives rave reviews.

Santana golf  is an 18-hole par 72  golf course  approximately 6200 meters from the tee to the 18th cup. This stunning and well designed parkland course is nestled in the Mijas golf valley surrounded by mountains, picturesque countryside, avocado plantations  and eucalyptus trees  which gives the course a special feel devoid of coastal developments.

This course, designed by Cable Robinson,  was a former avocado plantation before it was converted into its present form. The result was a world-class golf course  with fairways of level terrain and etched in water features that play upon its design utilising the natural terrain as both a buffer and  enhancement to the course design.

Strategically placed bunkers are filled with sand made from crushed marble which is slightly more grainy than the fine white which provides a greater level of golf ball resistance.

There are many other aspects of flora and fauna that were conserved from the natural environment and represent the indigenous plants of this region of Spain. Some of these include eucalyptus, cactus, pine trees, figs and all of trees, as well as a variety of other fruiting trees, which give place to the variety of bird species and other wildlife.

One particular resident of the course is the Calzada eagle which typically makes its nest in enclaves in the old cork trees. Many of these cork oak trees are over 500 years old and are not only beautiful but impressive to see.

The Santana golf course is a commanding course and intended to provide a challenge to experienced players as well as for the mid handicappers. Walk the Santana course to fully enjoy the scenic beauty although due to the length of this course you may find it convenient to hire a buggy.

Santana golf is arguably one of the most spectacular golf course on the Costa el Sol.Many  visiting golf groups and societies play the Santana course as part of their golfing package holiday but please ensure you book well in advance as the tee times are at a premium during the high season.
