Santa Maria Golf on the Costa del Sol

Santa Maria Golf Club

Santa Maria has become one of the most popular holiday golf courses on the Costa del Sol and is ideally located between Fuengirola and Marbella.

The golf course at Santa Maria suites high to medium handicap players and although it is quite short the design and layout make it a joy to play and is one of main courses that finds itself being part of the holiday itinerary of most visiting golf groups to the Costa del Golf.

On your way out two holes have a challenging climb up to the green and a steep path from the 5th green to the 6th tee is a difficult walk even for the fittest golfer. The first nine were designed by Antonio Garcia and the second which is a little wider by the clubs technical team.

There are a number of water hazards on the course which adds to its enjoyment and difficulty.

A signature hole is dog leg 8th hole par 5 which needs a good tee shot to be able to make your par. Your second shot needs to be straight as there is water running down the right – which can’t always be seen from the fairway and out of bounds on you left.

The dogleg 13th hole par 5 again a good tee shot is required over ravine if your are short and need to cut the corner your second shot will be over another ravine.

An oddity at Santa Maria is that the 9th hole is the farthest away from the club house situated at the top of the course  to the north of the club.

Santa Maria has a large membership who enjoy preferential tee times each day so it is advisable to book tee times early specially if you plan to play during the high season.

Overall Santa Maria deserves its reputation as one of the most popular user friendly golf courses on the Costa del Sol and is well worth playing at any time during the year. Golf packages including Santa Maria are readily available and easy to book online via our website.

The club has a nice bar located on top of the pro shop which offers good value meals and drinks and a nice place to chill out after the round overlooking the course.
